ABBO – ALLIANCE FOR VOCATIONAL EDUCATION IN EASTERN BAVARIA

ABBO is funded as a project in the initiative “Innovations for Excellent Vocational Education and Training” (InnoVET) by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

FUTURE CONCEPTS FOR EDUCATION

Vocational training is facing challenges: Due to a lack of modern technical equipment, personnel or financial resources, many industrial companies are not able on their own to guarantee future-oriented education and training in the digital transformation. In addition, young people are changing the way they choose their education and careers, and there are increasing problems filling training positions.

Aim of the project

ABBO develops solution approaches for these challenges. The aim of the project is to establish an innovation cluster for vocational education and training in the region of Eastern Bavaria, which enables the joint use of existing educational infrastructure and can be transferred to the whole of Bavaria as well as other parts of Germany with the educational concepts to be developed in the project.

Alliance and cooperation partners

In addition to the Lars and Christian Engel (LUCE) Foundation, BHS Corrugated Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH and the University of Applied Sciences of the Federal Employment Agency (HdBA), which is responsible for the scientific support of the project, have joined forces to implement the “Alliance for Vocational Training in Eastern Bavaria”.

INNOVATION CLUSTER “ABBO”

Innovative, modern and excellent education and training is the goal of the LUCE Foundation’s ABBO project.
It integrates four building blocks:

Early education

The interlinking of career orientation and training in a kind of “early training” is a future-oriented component of the ABBO Excellence Initiative. Young people should be given the opportunity during their school years to get a taste of professions over a longer period of time and to learn about the operational processes of individual professions in more detail. The aim is to provide students with “career choice skills” that enable them to realistically match the tasks and activities of their desired training occupation with their interests and knowledge. This module also focuses on the development of credit options for the transition to dual vocational training and the creation of tailored follow-up prospects for students and companies.

High-tech modules (for SMEs in the metal and electrical sector)

In order to adapt training in the metal and electrical industry to the requirements of digitization and also to enrich the content of in-company training, the project is developing inter-company “Industry 4.0 training modules” with digital and virtual learning sequences for the industrial metal professions of industrial mechanic and electronics technician for industrial engineering within this segment. Smaller and medium-sized companies in particular, which do not (yet) have the corresponding training structures and resources, should thus be enabled to deepen their technical and practical learning content in a targeted manner with the aim of providing training that is tailored to their needs and fit for the future.

Qualification of (vocational) training personnel

An essential component of the ABBO cluster is also the cross-learning (further) qualification of in-company, external and school education personnel, part-time trainers and training specialists as well as examiners. They, too, must be qualified with regard to early education, the advancing digitalization of the industry, and in the area of digital communication and digital learning. In addition to professionalization, the training of vocational training staff also focuses on teaching methodological and didactic skills and knowledge as well as media pedagogy.

Regional networking and digital learning location cooperation

In the area of regional networking & digital learning location cooperation, approaches are being developed as to how digitization can intensify learning location cooperation in order to improve training quality, and in what way cooperation can succeed. The contents of the modules early education, high-tech modules and qualification of trainers as well as a multitude of further (synergetic) advantages of a regional networking of people interested in education, schools, institutions and companies will be offered in a virtual ABBO campus as well as in a digital learning route app.
